Approach and Pre-visuals
I’ve always had a great relationship with the team at CHS, (I worked there for 8 years!), and I was really excited when they approached me to produce a short, fun animation to promote Lakelands ECO range of products. They already knew they wanted to use 3D and showed me some styles they aspired to. With the script already in the bag, it was a case of translating that into appropriate visuals, starting with hand-drawn scamps and storyboards.
Early test footage vs final scene
Early on in the process, I put together some rough test footage, to help sell-in the general idea and feeling to the client, one step further on from the handdrawn scamps.

Animatic and pre-render animation edit
A really important step early on, when working with 3D animation, is to put together an animatic from the handrawn scamps. This establishes the appropriate shot and scene length, to try and ensure you’re not animating, or rendering too much footage.
3D Build, Style frames animation and render
Then it’s on to texturing and lighting each scene, and making sure the client is happy with these as static images, before finalising animation.
