In Depth - DTC Stock Control

The second in a planned series of films to advertise DTC’s Hub ordering and stock control system.

I learnt some harsh lessons putting this one together! Mainly, don’t let your cinematic ambition exceed the amount of polygons C4D and Octane will allow you to render! After building the entire set in detail, with TWO yachts and a lot more workmen characters, a larger warehouse and adding and adding more and more items; I suddenly hit the buffers and Octane would not allow me to render out any scenes.

Cue some frantic scaling back of the set, only showing what was in camera and using a LOT of instances. A lesson learnt for the future: watch your polygon count.

After getting over that hurdle, I’m really pleased with how this one turned out, as is the client. There are some really nice camera moves in there ( I can really recommend The Luxx Orbit camera, available for free here) and, as before a big hand goes out to Aleksey at Ace5Studios for his help with character build and rigging on the workmen. A lot of the props were adapted from the really handy Greyscale Gorilla Happy Toolkit Vol2, and the office furniture/equipment is from CGaxis.

Sadly, production on the next few films in this series has been paused due to the COVID19 pandemic, but I really hope once we’ve all overcome that, and some kind of normality is back, this series will continue.
